Greetings from Beautiful Colorado!
We have had a very unusual autumn this year with many warm days. We’ve seen very little snow in Denver so far, but there is snow for skiing in the mountains and that makes the skiers happy! I was able to go to Conifer, CO in the foothills to enjoy Thanksgiving Day with my cousin, Becky Ferguson and her family. Many times the roads are icy and slick, so I am unable to go.
Last December I had a wonderful celebration of my 80th birthday with my family and friends at Lynne and Russell’s home in Dallas. We missed one son-in-law and two grandchildren, but all in all it was a wonderful day.
I am very thankful to be healthy even though my walking is very slow now. I am still able to deliver Meals on Wheels, and I consider that to be good exercise! I just renewed my driver’s license for another 5 years, and I am still driving my ‘98 Subaru with over 300,000 miles on it! I am getting new tires next week and plan to keep driving it! My cats Peewee and Tabitha still keep me company. For several years, I sewed little dresses for orphans in Haiti. Now our sewing group is making disposable hygiene kits for young girls in several foreign countries. Many of these girls would have to drop out of school when they started their periods and have no chance for an education. It is an exciting project. You can read more about it online at www.DaysForGirls.org.
My only great-grandson, Caspian just had his third birthday. He is a busy, happy little boy and growing fast. His Mommy and Daddy are Kayla and Trevor, David’s daughter and son-in-law. They live near Austin now and were able to come for my birthday. Caspian was born in Croatia while Kayla and Trevor were missionaries there. They came back to the states last fall.
My 4 grandchildren who were born in 1987 turned 30 this year if you can believe that! They are all doing well. Jenn is still in Phoenix and is an administrator at Little Sunshine Playhouse, Bryan is still in Lubbock and works for a Carpet Cleaning and Restoration Service, Eric is married to Ruth and they live in Dallas, and Aaron is married to Melissa and they live in Oklahoma City.
Ryan finished his school work in Human Rights at Columbia University in NY City and has been working with Freedom From Fear in Honduras for the past year. I was very surprised that he was able to come for my birthday, and it was wonderful to see him. Kevin moved from Providence, RI to Brooklyn, NY recently, and he is happy for the change.
David and Phyllis are still in Lubbock looking forward to retirement in a few more years. Lynne and Russell were happy to move to Dallas closer to family after more than 20 years in San Antonio. Teresa and Mike are still in Lubbock and both are still teaching in elementary school. Ruth and her husband, Bobb, are in Phoenix and doing well there.
I flew to Lubbock in March during spring break for a week with Teresa and David. They took me to see Dorothy Johnson, my high school friend and maid of honor in my wedding many years ago. She had recently moved from Odessa to a retirement home in Lubbock. It was wonderful to see her! Teresa and David also took me to Amarillo to see my sister, Joan and we had a good visit. My other sister, Glenda, passed away in 2016 and we miss her.
In July, I spent a week at my timeshare in Dillon, CO with Teresa and Mike and Jenn and her girlfriend, Gina. The mountains are always beautiful in the summer, and some of us go every summer.
In October I flew to OK City to see my brother, Duane who had recently moved to a memory care facility. It was good to see him, his wife, Berni and his son, Joe and his wife. I rented a car and drove to eastern OK to see my sister, Betty, who had recently moved to a nursing home in Heavener, OK. She seems to be adjusting well there and I was very glad to see her.
May God bless you with grace and peace in 2018!
