David's notes from an interview with his Mom
- December 26, 1936. Avanelle J. Hogsett is born in Spearman, Texas, the sixth of seven children born to Frank and Fern Hogsett. The family moves to Pampa, Texas a few weeks later.
- Easter Sunday, 1949. Avanelle, a seventh grader, is baptized in the First Christian Church in Pampa, Texas, after a series of classes. Sister Betty and mom Fern are baptized at the same time.
- April 2, 1955. Avanelle marries Roger Powell in the First Christian Church. Roger works for the City of Pampa Gas Company.
- Fall, 1955. Roger and Ava move to Shields Street in Oklahoma City, OK, and Roger attends The University of Oklahoma.
- February 21, 1956. David is born at St. Anthony's hospital in Oklahoma City.
- Spring, 1956. Roger and Ava move to an apartment in Norman for six weeks so Roger can study without listening to a crying baby.
- May, 1956. Roger and Ava move back to Pampa and live next door to the Jenkinses. That summer, Roger works for the gas company again, and Ava has a miscarriage.
- Fall, 1956. Roger and Ava move to Stillwater, and Roger attends school on the GI bill with an income of $160 a month.
- Summer, 1957. Roger and Ava live in Chico, Texas. They are both baptized at the church of Christ in Decatur, Texas. Ava is preparing to have another baby.
- Fall, 1957. Roger and Ava live in Stillwater, Oklahoma, and Roger attends Oklahoma A & M (now Oklahoma State University) and wires houses for additional income.
- October 17, 1957. Ava Lynne is born in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
- May, 1959. Roger earns an Associate Degree in Electronics .
- Summer, 1959. Roger gets a job with Electronic Associates, Inc. maintaining computers and moves his family to Red Bank, New Jersey for two months of training. They stop in Carthage, Missouri to visit Ava's grandparents, and Ava sees Washington, DC, New York City, and the Atlantic Ocean for the first time.
- Fall, 1959. Roger starts a job at Holloman Air Force Base in Alamogordo, New Mexico. After two weeks, Roger discovers the job requires one year of experience, which he does not have. Roger's boss encourages him to falsify the paperwork, but Roger refuses to do so, and quits.
- Fall, 1959. Roger drives his family to Dallas, Texas, where he lands a job at Texas Instruments. They rent a house on Interurban Street in Richardson.
- 1961. Roger and Ava purchase a house on Lavalle Lane in Dallas, their first.
- April 25, 1961. Teresa Fern is born in Garland, Texas.
- November 16, 1962. Ruth Ann is born in Garland, Texas.
- June-July, 1963. The family moves to Long Island, New York as part of Exodus Bay Shore. Roger begins work with Grumman Aerospace working on the Lunar Module.
- Summer, 1967. Grumman transfers Roger to the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. Roger and Ava rent the house in New York and purchase a new house in League City.
- Summer, 1969. The family returns to Long Island.
- Summer, 1970. Roger resigns his job at Grumman, and the family moves to Canyon, Texas, where he and Ava both attend West Texas State University (now West Texas A & M). Roger majors in mathematics, and Ava majors in education with a minor in art.
- Summer, 1972. Roger takes a job with Martin Marietta and moves the family to St. Louis, Missouri, where Roger works on Skylab.
- Summer, 1973. The family moves one more time, this time to Littleton, Colorado, where Roger works for Martin Marietta on the Viking Mars landers and other projects. Ava takes a job with National Assessment of Educational Progress.
- May 2 1985. Ava and Roger divorce. Ava loses her job around this time when NAEP loses its funding.
- Ava begins work for Asset Management Group.
- Ava purchases a town home in Denver.
- Ava retires from Asset Management Group.
- January, 21, 2018. Ava dies in her sleep at her home in Denver. She is buried in the Chapel Hill Cemetery behind Littleton Church of Christ, where she was a member for almost 45 years.
