Subject: I can see!
Dear family and friends,
Tuesday, November 19 - the day of my eye surgery was indeed a blessed day. We arrived at 8:30 and left at 11:30 - what a difference 3 hours makes! The nurse, Patty, was the first blessing. I initialed a few places on the forms and she asked me what a "coloboma" and "pupiloplasty" was. They do strictly eyes there every Tuesday, but this is not common - she said even the OR nurses wanted to know what it was so they could prepare. I got to share with her the miracle that was about to happen, and she said "you are going to make me cry - and I get to be part of it!" She also asked me about my accident. That's still a pretty amazing story every time I tell it - even after 3 years. She started her nursing career in neurology so she knew just what I was talking about.
I was in "twilight sleep" for the 30 minute procedure. It was great because I could hear Dr. Snip and his assistant - who I just found out is another surgeon who just joined the team. It was awesome to hear them describe what they were doing - and even better when I heard them say "that looks really nice!" Besides hearing them, I also was able to pray for him even as he was doing the surgery!
Russ told many of you that the initial results were that I could see 20/70. Yesterday I learned that the results are even better - 20/30 uncorrected! Today I went back to my optometrist to be fitted for a glasses lens for distance. It was great for them to see how far I had come since she has fitted my contact for 12 years. The lens is +1.25, and they put it in my glasses while I waited - a far cry from the time and $$ it took in the past. Amazing - Praise God!! Thank you for all your prayers. God is so good - all the time. I can definitely relate to those that Jesus healed who "went on their way rejoicing, and couldn't help but tell of what He did for them."
Some of you already know that I am facing more extensive neck surgery. It is called a "trough corpectomy with an anterior strut" and will involve C3-C6. I am praying for wisdom as we weigh the factors that will influence our decision on not if but when the surgery should be, possibly in December.

2 Corinthians 4
15 All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God.

Those of you who have been forwarded this message - I thought of you when I read this verse. I am thankful for you, too. As more and more people have heard about my journey, I pray that God has been all the more glorified as you are moved by His power, grace, and mercy.
16 Therefore I do not lose heart. Though outwardly I am wasting away, yet inwardly I am being renewed day by day. 17 For my light and momentary troubles are achieving for me an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So I fix my eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
That is my prayer. Don't think for a minute that I don't have my pity parties. I definitely do--thank goodness God is there waiting when I finally decide to rest in Him.
I was moved anew this past Sunday as we sang:

"For all that You've done I will thank You
For all that You're going to do
For all that You've promised, and all that You are
Jesus, I thank You." AMEN!
