Dear Family and Friends,
Progress still abounds in therapy - a couple of weeks ago, I walked to the car after therapy holding only Russell's hand! Then, that Sunday, I walked into worship holding Russell's hand! Today, I went back to University clinic to see Dr. Barber, and I walked up there holding only Russell's hand. I also got to see Kathy Browne, my former OT therapist. These were ALL very special times. I am going to get a cane to use when I don't have Russell's hand to hold. I still use the mobilizer for longer distances and when I am tired. We continue working on balance and endurance, even walking on the treadmill. I especially enjoy the pool therapy on Friday mornings. It feels SO good to be submerged in warm water, and it is different resistance, therefore I can do different things in the water that I cannot yet do on land. Mostly though, we are walking, walking, walking.....forward, backward, side stepping, on toes, on heels, braiding, one foot in front of the other, and any other way they can think of.
I am having quite a lot of pain in my right shoulder and arm which could be due partly at least to the many trigger points that have developed there. My OT therapist is using ultra sound and massage to try to relieve it some. Today, my doctor decided to try me on Vioxx, which is a different kind of anti-inflammatory medicine. I hope it helps - and I was glad that he still had other options left to try.
Last weekend, the boys had a long weekend, so we escaped to Austin. Despite the cold and rain we enjoyed getting away. We spent most of Saturday with Mary and Lora, Phyllis' mother and sister. You may remember that Mary is the retired nurse that came to stay with me every other Saturday from March until June while Russell was in school. She was pretty amazed at how far I had come. You may also remember that Lora is the one who brought me the song "Little by Little" while I was in the hospital (that Teresa and I sang on the tape). Sunday, we worshipped at University Ave. where our former preacher, Dean Smith, now preaches. We also walked around the Capitol a while before coming home. We even stayed in a hotel. Our room was handicap accessible, but I still had to shower standing up, holding on to the grab bars - not easy for me, but I did it!
Thank you for your continued prayers. God is so awesome - prayers continue to be answered in a mighty way!
God bless you all,
Lynne
