Dear Family and Friends,
I wanted to update you on my transition to Warm Springs rehab center, and give you a progress report, since Teresa told about her visit to San Antonio, the Ginny Owens concert, and the tape we made together.
At Warm Springs, I am still doing physical and occupational therapy three times a week, although I don't have my Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning schedule established yet. So...... I am going on Monday afternoon and Thursday and Friday mornings. That puts the days I go to work back-to-back on Tuesday and Wednesday, as well as having therapy back-to-back on Thursday and Friday. This is a more exhausting schedule, and I hope and pray that I can get back to a more normal schedule soon. Transitioning to new therapists has been somewhat difficult - they start all over with a new evaluation, and have many new ways of doing things - and I have to learn to trust new people, including several students. However, it has its payoffs, too. For example,
Big Accomplishments
At Sunset Ridge, we always start our time of midweek renewal with praise and worship. Last week, when Danny finished leading us, he told everyone to be seated - except me. While I was standing there, he told everyone again about my accident, and the miracle of healing God has brought in my life. He said we didn't know at the time whether I would ever stand again - let alone walk. But God has given me that gift. He told about the first time I was back on praise team when someone had to hold my microphone so I could sing, but how important it was for me to be back in ministry. God will use us - no matter what shape were in - if we will let Him. Danny then led us in a prayer of thanksgiving and praise. What a blessing! I am constantly amazed at how my experience continues to bless so many people.

Donna Drayton, the wife of my co-worker Steve, was in a head-on collision last Tuesday when the other driver went into a diabetic coma. She was airlifted to University Hospital with extensive injuries to her legs and feet. She underwent corrective surgeries, and was an ICU for several days. She has now transferred to rehab where she will be for two weeks to a month, and then in a wheelchair until she regains use of her legs. Her situation is so similar to mine that I really hurt for her and her family. Please pray for strength, endurance, and healing. We know what God can do!
Grace and peace to all of you,
Lynne

Transitioning to new therapists has been somewhat difficult - they start all over with a new evaluation, and have many new ways of doing things - and I have to learn to trust new people, including several students. However, it has its payoffs, too. For example,
- Sessions are only 45 minutes rather than an hour, but there is only one patient per therapist, and I get attended therapy the whole time
- New ways of doing things are not necessarily bad. In fact sometimes they bring faster results. We have been working a lot on my balance - on one leg, on my knees, on all fours, using a thera-ball, and anything else they can think of.
- I have access to hydrotherapy, which was not an option at University. Last Friday, I spent two hours in a warm pool, for both my OT and PT sessions. Not only did that feel WONDERFUL, but it provided a different way to work on my arms and legs. Because I am still so slow at dressing (but at least I can do it myself eventually), it made more sense to do both PT and OT on the same day in the water.
Big Accomplishments
- I was able to climb the stairs at church to attend the first chorus rehearsal of this semester. They have provided a music stand to hold my music, and some rubber fingertips to help turn the pages quickly. It is GREAT to be back. I know I have been called by God to be part of this ministry.
- Last Thursday, in PT, I made my first lap of about 400 feet - without my mobilizer! We tried using a four-footed cane, and a single point cane, but it worked best to use nothing - except the therapists who accompanied me. The hardest part is learning how to coordinate my hands and feet again. When I used by wheelchair, I drove it with my feet, and could not use my hands. With my mobilizer, I walk and hold on with my hands, so to use them both together is a new skill. What worked best was for my therapist to get behind me and push on my shoulders each time I was supposed to swing that arm. What a wonderful experience - another miracle!
