Dear Friends and Family,
Several of you have asked for an update and I apologize for being a little slow in getting one out. I did see both of my doctors on 1/31. The bottom line was 6 more weeks then we'll take more x-rays, 6 more weeks of OT/PT and we'll see how my right leg and foot are doing, 6 weeks and hopefully my voice will be back to normal.
Dr. Vollmer said that although he was moving to Houston, he would still review my x-rays and follow my case until there is a suitable replacement. What a blessing! Then he hand-wrote a note to take to Dr. Barber so that they are on the same page. There's a lot to be said about communication, particularly between doctors.
My neck is healing, but it takes awhile for the bone to fuse - that's why more x-rays in 6 weeks. He said if we were able to arrest the deterioration in my neck, he considered the surgery a success, even though he was unable to get it completely straightened out (eliminate the Kyphosis).
I went to see my massage therapist, Cindy, today. She did some myofacial work on my right leg, as well as trying some new stuff she just learned. My foot feels a lot better now - I am anxious to see if it holds. About 2 1/2 weeks ago she worked on unlocking my right shoulder that had been so painful since surgery, and my OT was impressed at how much better the range of motion was as a result, and it has held. A week ago in PT, I got to start water therapy once a week, and I really enjoy that.
The doctors also released me to go back to work 20 hours a week. I started that Feb. 3. They are glad to have me back, for whatever time I can give them. Things are still extremely busy, and it is really easy to get back into the stress of it all. I have already realized that I have to prioritize and pace myself, because it is really easy to overdo it.
Many of you probably know the hymn "Holy Ground". For me, because of the miracle God worked in me, I know that every time I stand up it is on Holy Ground.

I am standing on Holy Ground
And I know that there are angels all around
Let us praise Jesus now
I am standing in His presence on Holy Ground
And I know that there are angels all around
Let us praise Jesus now
I am standing in His presence on Holy Ground
I have been admittedly frustrated and yes, even a bit resentful, that I have taken a bigger step backwards physically than I anticipated due to this surgery. However as we sang this last Sunday I again was brought to my knees and rejoice that I can still stand, even if a bit wobbly, on Holy Ground -- both physically and spiritually.
Blessings to all of you,
Lynne
