Dear Family & Friends:
Today was another red letter day! In P.T. first I was able to stand for 5 minutes on the parallel bars and come to a stand with minimal assistance. Then, after doing various exercises to strengthen my legs, hips & ankles, they had me walk on a walker! I was assisted on either side by therapists & Russell followed behind with the wheelchair in case I got too tired. But I walked from the PT room to the OT room (about 70 feet). Praise God!!
In OT a reevaluation was performed. The results were improvement in ALL areas. One of the tests was putting small pegs into a board (similar to the "I.Q." tests found in restaurants) Last time I tried that particular test, I could not even pick up the pegs at all. This time, not only did I pick them up, I put them all where they belonged, then took them all back out. First with my right hand, then with my left hand!
This morning I wet my washrag & wrung it out all by myself. I also am graduating from using the universal cuff for eating, to just using a "fat end" on a regular spoon, or fork. I'm also able to hold the telephone to my ear and hold cards & things in my hand to read them. To summarize, my grip is improving dramatically.
We met with the surgeon yesterday. He was pleased with my progress and told me again that time is my friend and that I'm only 1/4 into the expected year recovery time. We'll do another MRI in about a month. AND BEST OF ALL....I get to wean myself from wearing my big collar (which has been my constant companion for 24-7 since Christmas Eve)
I was asked to sing on the praise team this Sunday, and am looking forward to that! (Thank God, I didn't lose my voice in all of this!) Thanks for your continued prayers, as you see, God is not through with me yet!!
Thanks to my sister, Ruth, who is typing this for me. She is in the area visiting this week.
May God's Love & Peace be with you all,
Lynne
