Dear Family and Friends,
Here is the latest update on my sister, Lynne. Lynne's mother-in-law Anita and I flew to San Antonio (thanks to some men in Lynne's office) on Friday, and returned today.
Friday evening when visiting Lynne, she was showing off how she is able to bend her arms. She can bring her hands up to her face, and even scratch her own head and push up her glasses. She also showed us her voice activated phone. The phone has been wonderful in keeping her connected with everyone.
While in San Antonio I drove Lynne's car which is stick shift. It's been 14 years since I drove one, so Friday night Anita and I kept Lynne laughing by telling her what I had done. One of which included calling Russell from the HEB parking lot to tell him the car wouldn't start.....his response was, "Did you push the clutch all the way in?" OHHH.....the car started!! It was so good to laugh with Lynne.
Also, Friday night, Lynne's friend, Jennie, came by to see her. Jennie and Lynne are co-office managers. Jennie came to give Lynne the headset for her phone.
Saturday, after Lynne finished therapy, Anita and I went back to the hospital. When we got there, Lynne had finished therapy, and was still in her wheelchair (which she calls her cadillac). So...we walked around and went to look out a big window at San Antonio. We walked around quite awhile. Considering the last time I saw her she was flat on her back, it was wonderful to be able to push her around awhile. We went back to her room for her to rest.
Not long after that, Mary, Lora, and Ashley Netherland along with Ashley's friend, Martha, came to see her. They brought a collection of contemporary christian songs on CD for Lynne to listen to, as well as a song from our teenage years. Lora said that Lynne had taught her this song when we were kids, and she thought it appropriate to give it back to her. It goes, "Little by little in every day, little by little in every way, Jesus is changing me,He's changing me. Since I made a turn about face, I've been growing in His grace, Jesus is changing me. He's changing me, my precious Savior, I'm not the same person that I used to be. Sometimes it's slow going, but there's a knowing that some day perfect I will be." WOW! There wasn't a dry eye in the room. Lora printed out the words, and they are taped to Lynne's mirror.
Saturday night we left so that Lynne and Russell could have a date.
Sunday morning Anita and I went to church with Russell and the boys. Several people inquired about Lynne, and it is obvious how much her church family loves her. After lunch I took the boys and headed back to the hospital where my dad, uncle Richard and cousin Steffanie were visiting Lynne. The boys hugged their mom, and for the first time in 3 weeks she was able to put her arms around them. It was a sweet moment.
Dad took the boys back to the house, and I stayed to help Lynne get some things done. I had brought the handout from church with me, so I read Psalm 139, which was the scripture of the day, and then we sang all of the songs in the handout and had a prayer. It was great to have this time together.
Soon afterwards, Lynne's friend Cindy from work came to see her. Cindy brought fresh flowers, and news that Lynne had received a raise at work. She told Lynne, "You may think we're doing okay without you, but we're not. No one can fill your shoes. We're just getting by until you can return."
After Cindy left, I helped Lynne write some thank you notes. We are overwhelmed at the outpouring of love.
Today, Monday, we went by to see Lynne awhile before we headed to the airport. She was doing therapy. They had her stand up 4 times (with assistance), and she sat up straight on the mats without assistance!!!!!!!!! She is working soooo hard. It is a lot of work. She kept saying, "This isn't Mercy Hospital, this is work your butt off hospital." With therapy, Lynne is able to do something new each day that she could not do the day before!
It was hard for me to leave her after having such a good weekend together, but to see her doing things that she was unable to do 2 weeks ago is encouraging to all of us.
Please continue to pray daily for strength, endurance, and a full recovery.

There is a song by the Contemporary Christian group, Sierra called I Know You Know that Lynne shared with me, and I know she would share with you, too, if she could.

I Know You Know
I can trust and choose your will for me, or I can choose to trust my own, but every time I do, I end up on my knees longing for Your arms to lift me up.
I can take the roads You lead me down, or I can turn and go my own way, but every time I do I end up on my knees longing for your arms to lift me up.
(chorus) I know, You know just what I need. I know You have a plan for me. So I'm gonna take Your lead, and I won't worry what the future holds, cause I know, You know.
I can hear just what you have to say, or I can hear just what I want, but everytime I do I end up on my knees longing for Your arms to lift me up.
Lord, You're faithful in everything, everything. You're the rock I'm leaning on
